George Washington to Thomas Jefferson, 29 June 1792

From George Washington

I am grieved to find that Mr. Short was, on the 22d. of April, without his Commission and Instructions—and that Mr. Morris was not then in Paris.

RC (DLC); undated; addressed: “Secretary of State”; note by TJ at foot of text: “It proved afterwards that the ship carrying the instructions was wrecked”; endorsed by TJ as received 29 June 1792 and so recorded in SJL.
